The
Coast Information Team brought together
the best available scientific, traditional,
and local knowledge to develop independent information
and analyses in support of ecosystem-based management
(EBM) in the north and
central coastal region of British Columbia, including
Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands. This information
was provided to the three subregional
Land and Resource Management Planning (LRMP)
tables and the several First Nations Land Use
Planning (LUP) tables to assist them in
developing practical recommendations to resolve
land use and natural resource management issues.
The CIT concluded its work on March 31, 2004.
The suite of CIT products contained on this website
reflects the legacy of CIT's work and provides
valuable information and guidance
on the key tenets of EBM: maintaining ecosystem
integrity and improving human wellbeing. Stakeholders
and First Nations involved in land
and resource management decision-making in the
CIT area are encouraged to draw on the information
and recommendations in CIT products
as they seek to implement EBM.
