All land-use planning processes in the CIT analysis area were committed to promoting ecosystem-based management (EBM), defined as: a strategic approach to managing human activities that seeks to ensure the coexistence of healthy, fully functioning ecosystems and human communities. The intent is to maintain those spatial and temporal characteristics and processes of whole ecosystems such that component species and human social, economic and cultural activities can be sustained. The mandate of the CIT was to bring together the best available scientific, traditional, and local knowledge, environmental expertise, and community experience to develop information and analyses to support the development and implementation of EBM in the CIT region. To fulfill this mandate, the CIT produced the following products and information:
